Sebastian the Fish

We decided to go to the pool last weekend. The last time we went, Sebastian showed us that he was not afraid to grapple onto the side of the big pool (in a life vest) and use his hands to move himself around the edges. He would only go in the center of the pool if he hung on to Mommy's shoulders (and he was rather picky that it had to be MOMMY's shoulders and no one else's). Needless to say, Mommy got her exercise that day carting him around.

I expected about the same this time around since we hadn't been to the pool in a while, but he ended up surprising us. Not only did he show us that he was not afraid to let go of the side of the pool and float on his own (in a life vest), but he also took great enjoyment out of swimming from one end of the pool to the other and back again (lengthwise) all by himself. He didn't want mommy's shoulders anymore, and when I offered him a ride he said, "No, Batsy's shoulders!" ("Batsy" is the nickname his cousin has given him to shorten Sebastian). His confidence and independence in the water is really amazing. If he was potty trained I'd look at swimming lessons for him-- perhaps next summer.
